In other news, I really need a haircut!
and here it is.
my 24 hour comic
took 22 hours. and then a little longer for some edits but. I’ve still got another hour till my 24 is officially up, and I’m definitely gonna be snoozing.
For having no planning except a selkie design and a rough concept of the girl, I think I did alright. I definitely pushed my self to try new things and, I’m happy about that. there are some things I’d like to tweak but… NOPE! IM DONE!
I also learned how much I can get done when I don’t distract myself so much. have to figure out how to rein that in haha.
also, if you’re curious about the title! fun fact time thanks to wikipedia (so it may or may not be true)
Selkies (also known as silkies or selchies) are mythological creatures found in Faroese, Icelandic, Irish, and Scottish folklore. The word derives from earlier Scots selich, (from Old English seolh meaning seal)
okay. sleep time.
Simon Schama- The Power of Art
Here’s a video about Bernini we watched in class today! (these are hour long documentaries fyi) It talks about Bernini and builds up the context of the Ecstasy of St. Teresa (and somehow got through the whole video without saying ‘sex’ or ‘orgasm’ once!)
And here’s the picture that was focused on for the second one! We learned a great deal about the buildup of the French Revolution, and the interactions of politics and art and propaganda!
This was evidently (and rightly so) one of the most controversial pieces of political propaganda of it’s day.
and ooOOOOOH THIS SERIES INCLUDES J.M.W TURNER AHHHHHH
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SERIES AND I AM EXCITED ABOUT WHAT I AM ABOUT TO GET TO LEARN ABOUT HIM AND HIS ART :D :D :D
There are also videos about Van Gogh and Caravaggio and a bunch of other famous artists, and if you’re remotely interested I highly recommend checking them out :)
Guess what happens when you take an Early Italian Renaissance Art History class? Yup, a lotta hetalia fanart!
Some notes about the inspiration/context for these doodles are in the image descriptions. Mostly I’ve been yoinking clothes and hats out of the pictures we’ve been studying :)
Torso studies from my figure drawing class, white conte pencil on black paper, about 40 minutes each.
The one on the left was done second, and has some scribbling and subtraction/blending in addition to the basic cross-hatching I used in the one on the right. I’m looking forward to pushing the style when we do this again!
fun fact: this is not real because this is not possible and therefore this is all a lie and this person should be arrested 4 being a big fat liar
;D ;D ;D
You should see the stuff my classmates do.
Figure drawing class, white conte pencil and vine charcoal on midtone paper. 40 minutes, with a progress shot at 20 minutes.
We all need our fairy tales.
What a boring fairytale. I mean, yea the message is great, but if you tried to tell this to a kid at night as a bedtime story, they would be dissapointed as fuck. There needs to be some sort of problem to give the story essence. Like I don’t know a dragon kidnaps one of the girls and then the other girl has to rescue her from it and then they fall in love and shit like that.
This is not a fairytale for a child at bedtime, this is a fairytale for me.
